- Tile can be easy to maintain as long as you take precautions. As with all flooring you want to keep it clean, sweeping and vacuuming without a beater brush will keep your floor looking beautiful.
- Cleaning spills as soon as they happen. This will keep your floor looking like new. You don’t want spills to have a chance to get into the grout and stain it.
- Make sure you clean your grout regularly, it may sound daunting but it will keep it from discolouring and can save a lot of hassle in the long run.
- Avoid using bleach or cleaners with acid in them as they can deteriorate your tiles & grout.
- Harsh cleaning aids like steel wool and scouring pads should not be used as they can break down the finish on your tile & grout.
- Do not use wax or oil based cleaners on your tile and make sure to seal your grout lines only.
- When mopping, use a damp mop head or microfiber cloth, and always use a floor cleaner made for your specific tile be it ceramic, porcelain or natural stone.
- Avoid dropping heavy or hard objects on your floor as you could risk cracking or chipping the tile.
- Around areas that are prone to water (baths, showers and sinks) make sure you use a kitchen/bath sealer to keep water from sitting. Sitting water can lead to the grout drying out and cracking.
- Tile is not waterproof. Make sure in areas that does not have proper waterproofing that sitting water does not accumulate. This will cause the water to seep through the grout line, damaging the bonding surface or cause mold.
